fourth grade reading
my fourth grade students bombed the most recent Science benchmark assessment our district administered. i mean, ground zero of a bombing. so i'm doing what I can in reading to help with content vocabulary and comprehension.
today, we read an article from Wonderopolis about why pluto is not a planet anymore.
i wrote out the science objective language (vocabulary) on the side of the article. when then looked at the SOL and created an "exchange list".
my mini-scholars then went through the article and highlighted the words on our exchange list.
then they read the article, paying attention to the "exchange" words.
here is the worksheet they used as they read through the article. they would write a sentence that they were having trouble understanding from the article. then rewrite the sentence after "exchanging" the words.
